River Tour and AGM 2006, Rotterdam, Sat 1 April

Arrangements
11h30-1200 hours; Assemble/board at boat "Animathor", near Rotterdam center (Haringvliet)
1210 hours; Animathor departs Haringvliet Haven
1215 hours; AGM
1400 hours; Lunch
1600 hours; Return to quayside (approx.)

Rotterdam Port Tour
The AGM for the IMechE Benelux branch will this year - for the first time ever - be held on a boat! The event will be combined with a tour of the world's Second Largest Port on a traditional Dutch river boat. Definitely an outing for partners, friends and families this one, as there will be plenty to see and do onboard while the AGM itself (briefly) takes place below deck. In among the busy traffic of sea-going and inland ships, this trip is a special voyage past Rotterdam's impressive skyline with its imposing buildings and unique views of the harbour's shipyards, docks and the hypermodern transhipping of thousands of containers.

A Buffet will be provided and an on-board bar is also available.
Price will be a mere 15 Euros per person.

Our outing is easily accessible by public transport with Haringvliet Haven being a 2-3 minute walk from Rottedam Blaak (not Rotterdam Centrale) train station. Car parking details are below.

Haringvliet haven in Rotterdam


Driving from A16 (exit 25) to Haringvliet along the Maas River;


By car to Haringvliet and/or Parking Garage;
1. Coming from: Utrecht/Gouda, take the A20 in the direction of Rotterdam, then take the A16 in the direction of Dordrecht, before crossing the Van Brienenoord bridge take exit nr. 25 in the direction of Centrum/Capelle a/d IJssel, turn right at the traffic lights in the direction of Centrum, go straight on along Maasboulevard. Follow the river.

As you drive towards the Willemsbrug (red coloured bridge) you pass Tropicana swimming pool complex to your left then turn first right off the Maasboulevard onto the Oostmolenwerf. Drive 300 m or so and you pass the Haringvliet and boat on the left. For the parking see garage info below

2. Coming from: Den Haag/Hoek van Holland, take the A20 in the direction of Utrecht, then take the A16 in the direction of Dordrecht, before crossing the Van Brienenoord bridge take exit nr. 25 in the direction of Centrum/Capelle a/d IJssel, turn right at the traffic lights in the direction of Centrum, follow the river on the N side on along Maasboulevard. Further; see 1. above.

3. Coming from: Dordrecht, take the A16 in the direction of Rotterdam, ***long before*** you reach the Van Brienenoord bridge you have to follow the signs, Centrum/Capelle a/d IJssel (exits 24-26), keep to the right and take the first exit/turning after the bridge in the direction of Centrum (exit 25), turn left at the traffic lights (take 3/4 of the roundabout), follow the river on the N side on along Maasboulevard.
